All East Coast Herbalist products come standard with a measured dropper. This makes it easy to establish the right dosage for each individual. For this particular product, dosing is as follows:
.25ml = 4mg CBD
.5ml = 8mg CBD
.75ml = 12mg CBD
1ml = 16mg CBD
If you need a product that is lower dose, try our Bacon CBD Pet 250mg Tincture.
This product is intended for daily use. Everyone experiences a slightly different response, so our best advice is to start with a low dose and increase slowly until you reach the desired effects. We urge patients to commit to using any product consistently for at least 30 days to give enough time to evaluate how the product is working.
Pets do really well with CBD and require much smaller dosages to see results. Typically we start dosing by weight. See below for suggested starting dosages:
Under 10 lbs = 2mg per serving increase as needed
10 – 35 lbs = 2-4mg per serving increase as needed
35 – 60 lbs = 4-6mg per serving
60+ lbs = 6-8mg+ per serving
If your pet is new to taking these types of products, start with .25ml on the measured dropper 1x per day.
Administer .25ml on food or dripped on a piece of bread 1x per day for 4 days.
If needed after 4 days, increase to .5ml on food or dripped on a piece of bread 1x per day for 4 days.
If needed after another 4 days, increase to .75ml on food or dripped on a piece of bread 1x per day for 4 days.
Continue increasing in .25ml increments until you feel like you are seeing good results or your pet experiences undesired side effects. Side effects are typically mild and could include, lethargy, upset stomach, sleeplessness.
Just as a reference, some pets respond great to .25ml and some respond to 2ml or more. There are many factors that dictate the effective dose like tolerance, body weight, and severity of symptoms.
Effective dosages are different for every pet and can range from 2mg – 20mg per serving or even higher. The best thing you can do is observe your pet closely and monitor their progress. Contact us directly with any questions.
Why Would I Use a Tincture For My Pet?
Medicinally speaking, tinctures are typically our go-to as a prophylactic (daily use). Tinctures are best suited for daily use due to easy dosing and long acting effects.
Tinctures allow you to use a measured dropper (standard on all of our products) to calculate the right dose. You can also change the dosage as needed.
For people that are serious about getting the best results, a tincture offers dosing flexibility, better absorption than edibles, and is more cost effective in the long run if they are using daily.
Time for tinctures to take effect: 30 – 60 minutes
How long tinctures last: 4 – 6 hours
- Easy to calculate dose using measured dropper
- Flexibility to change dose up and down as needed
- Faster acting than edibles or capsules
- Whole body effects that last
- Not the best option for “as needed” issues
- Slightly shorter acting than edibles or capsules
Tinctures are best suited for:
- Pets that need to titrate dose up or down to find the right amount
- A daily use supplement
- Ready and willing to put in a little effort to get results
Why Would I Use CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD): CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. CBD is non-intoxicating, unlike THC, which is the compound in marijuana responsible for the “high” feeling. CBD is considered extremely low risk, especially in the common doses taken over the counter. Despite that, there are some medication interactions you will want to be mindful of. If your pet is taking medications, you should discuss using CBD with your vet before starting a regimen.
CBD Best Uses:
- Excess energy
